
Kelly Clarkson, in full Kelly Brianne Clarkson, (born April 24, 1982, Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.), American musician, singer and TV host who became known as a pop-rock star after winning the popular television talent contest American Idol in 2002. Clarkson was born and raised in Burleson Texas (a suburb in Fort Worth), where her singing abilities were initially noticed by her seventh grade music teacher. Clarkson quit high school in order to move into Los Angeles where she failed to get a job in the industry of entertainment. When she returned in Texas in 2002, Clarkson took part in the American Idol, a show broadcast by the Fox Broadcasting Co. American Idol. This singing contest allowed the audience to decide which singer they liked best. Clarkson was well-liked by viewers for her stunning voice and wit. Clarkson's prize as the winner was $1 million plus a recording contract with RCA.
