Her initial inspiration was the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks she devised a process which did not render the chosen object onto canvas in an unflat image. In this way, the selected subject is transformed into an image. This is particularly true when using living items or objects that die for example, like fruits or human beings. Alexa Meade's style of painting, which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is her photograph. Both the painting and photographic methods are tightly interwoven that the end result is nothing but a two-dimensional flat space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension can only be seen in certain areas like near the eyes, or near hair. Meade has integrated her models painted by Meade into the 3-dimensional space around the models. Interaction between them and this created world is conceivable. By doing so, Meade is able to blur the lines between painting, photography and performance.
