Her tenure as a reporter at The Washington Post was spent covering several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols was a reporter for nine years with ESPN, where she won two Emmy Awards. The Monday Night Football coverage as a team reporter was one of the areas she worked for the network. Then, she switched onto CNN Sports as well as Turner. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN and CNN International. It was watched by over a billion viewers worldwide. Nichols was a reporter for NBA shows on TNT which included the regular season, playoffs and all-star broadcasts. She also reported for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. The only woman to have been chosen from more than two hundred nominees in the long history of the award.
